One year-olds are too young to remember a birthday or participate in anything grandiose.

Give them a treat they really like. Play with them. Take a picture with a birthday party hat or sign or something that shows the occasion is the 1-yr birthday so the kid can look at it latter.

Save your money, time, energy and ideas for a couple of years when the kid is old enough to appreciate it.

Keep things simple for your baby's first birthday; one-year olds are easily overwhelmed. If you're planning a party, start it after her nap and limit it to two hours. Keep the guest list short and the decorations to a minimum. At this age, the best way to make the day special is to give your child your full attention and throwing an elaborate event may make that difficult.

For my daughter's first birthday, we put together a time capsule for her to open on a later birthday. Everyone brought something to put inside it. We included a newspaper, magazines, a mix cd of popular music, and letters from Mommy and Daddy. We took pictures of all the guests at the party with a Polaroid camera. Each guest wrote a message on their picture and placed it in the time capsule. Everyone had fun and my daughter will have an extra special gift for a birthday in the future.

Whatever you chose to do, be sure to take pictures and video - it is a day to remember. You may even want to ask someone to be responsible for doing it for you, so you aren't stuck behind the camera.

Good luck with the celebration and happy birthday to your daughter!

Keep it simple. I had a pretty large party for my son's 1st birthday and I was so stressed out that I don't even remember anything about it. I would just keep it immediate family (parents, grandparents, siblings). The larger parties can wait. Make sure you get her a small cake. Wal-mart, will provide a cake for Free for a baby's 1st birthday. If you get a store bought cake, I would make sure that the frosting is the whipped and not the butter cream. Butter cream is a lot harder to get off of a child and it stains. (just my honest opinion.). Make sure to take lots of pictures. Most important of all....... HAVE FUN!!!

you can have a birthday party at home, you can have a table set up with white t-shirts and paints.have the kids make their own shirts and have one aside for the birthday girl that everyone can write a special message on for her.you can also set the tables up with butcher paper and have markers on the table so the kids or adults can draw or write a message for the birthday girl. have many games set up in different parts of the yard......
watermelon eating contest,
limbo,
coloring contest,
have posters around the wall of your house and have one poster say "Quess Baby's time of birth?",have your guest guess the birth time baby was born
another poster and have it say something like "quess how many jelly beans are in the jar?"
another poster that say "Quess how many pounds Baby wieght when she was born"
go to the dollar store and buy toys or picture frames for the winners.it doesnt have to be big prizes, it could be a jump rope(keep in mind you are inviting lil babys your daughters age, so buy baby toys or if an adult wins buy a candybar or something that an adult would like.

have fun..............goodl uck.

She won't remember, or really care. It was kind sad to see that for my daughters first birthday. Its all for the parents, it really is. Just a diner with friends and family will be more then enough. As well, at that age they get excited and exhuasted easily, so all those people would be more then enough excitement.

*Have the party outside, in a park. Easy clean up and the other kids can run them selves tired, (their parents will thank you!)
*Serve finger foods like small sandwhiches and goldfish crackers/pretzels. Easy and less messy for small kids.
*Don't worry about getting the decarted plates and cups. your baby wont notice and they are just going to be thrown away anyway. Use cheap solid color cups and plates.
*Have guests bring a future wishes, newspaper clippings, or
pictures from the year your baby was born. You can put it in
a "time capsule" and give it to your child when they are older.
*Make sure baby takes a nap before party.....don't want them to be fussy!

Start inroducing Disney books to her. Althought she cannot read yet, She will enjoy looking at the pictures while you read to her, she may not understand what u are sauying, but beleive it or not if you read to your babies while they are in the womb, and early infant, there is a greater chance they will become great students/intellectual people. Hope this helps. I would still buy her little gifts so she can fiddle around with them and open.

I would encourage you to take a lot of pictures and spend almost no money. Just invite family over for cake. Friends, presents and most decorations are lost on babies--balloons excepted.

A few MYLAR balloons, a regular sized cake and a mini cake ( for her to play with), a few friends and call it a day. They don't really remember it and they don't have the attention span for too much more.
