I find it interesting that so many of my friends and co-workers feel that the government or someone owes them something. They shouldn't have to pay or be responsible for anything according to them. What ever happened to working hard and personal responsibility? Should the government be depended on to take care of the all the needs of all its people?

What do you think?

That attitude totally drives me crazy also. I think people have just gotten so used to having things handed to them or having their problems "fixed" so that they don't have to take responsibility for themselves. During the Depression or even the Westward Expansion people sacrified to make their futures better. I don't see anyone giving up anything these days if it means the neighbors might have more.

Getting people to depend on the government has been a cornerstone of the democratic party agenda. The more people on entitlement programs the more people can be given meaningless jobs to take care of them and naturally vote for the Democrats. People need to realize government programs are run like charities. For every dollar that reaches the needs about 50 are spent in the pipeline. After 4 generations of living off the middle class the lazy people are set in their ways. Take away from those that work hard and make something of their lives and give it to the system to support poverty.

Yes, I am an American with entitlement mentality. I believe I am entitled to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. I do believe the government owes me something because they were founded to protect us and ensure us a better life. All governments owe their people and that's the reasoning of democracy they serve us not the other way around. Democracy is the basis of out belief now. The government should not be depended on to serve all our needs, but the modern day bureaucracy ensures they are in every aspect of our lives. We expect their involvement to make it safer and as convenient as possible not harder. Government should not have interfered with every aspect of our lives if they felt they could not handle our demands. Now that we have become dependent on their system they have no choice.

Hard work and responsiblity are very important. But there is also the fact the government aid to the poor is very important. If you look at all western European countries, the governments each have massive benefits for the people.

Free healthcare, free education and automatic, universal voter registration should be fundamental in all countries (just like in Western European nations).

I totally agree that many Americans are suffering from delusions of entitlement. I see it every day, in many different ways.

No one wants to be responsible for anything.

What did happen to the work ethic? It shouldn't matter whether you earn minimum wage or a hundred dollars an hour, a person should always try to do their best.

Why are governments not providing people with more jobs and more means of earning a living? Many people probably feel angry because they feel that their options have been cut off, and that there are too many people with more money than they know what to do with while others are poor.

Many family members, however, are not looking after one another, especially the sick and the elderly like they used to.

All those tax dollars come from somewhere. It's usually if not always the result of working Americans who don't ecpect anything from the government. People that think they are entitled when they aren't need to have a reality check. They need to experience what it's like to have to support lazy *** people they don't even know.

I know a married couple - both work, and they receive food stamps and medicaid. This is because (even combined) their income is too little to pay the bills (and they live modestly).

If you are referring to Financial Aid (as in Pell Grant) everyone below a certain income is entitled to that - so that everyone who wants one can get an education.

If you are talking about Social Security, the people paid into that for many years, and are entitled to receive those monies on retirement.

Maybe because they get the shaft from that very same government and who benefits from it?

Cooperate America and the rich man of-course.
Most rich men don't know what it's like to put in 65/hrs at a steel factory it's something they have never and will never experience.

Don't confuse hard work with, big business!

People today are spoiled. Most don't have a clue what hard work is. I used to think that the harder I worked the more I would benefit from it later. Hogwash! I still work hard but no longer under that assumption. If you want something from this world then you must take it.
