To list everything that archemides invented that still impacts us today would take to long. He was from Syracuse (a greek colony eventually annexed by the Romans; allegedly a Roman soldier killed Archimedes while the great man was trying to square a circle in the sand.)

Oh, and although the saftey pin was patented in the 1800s, the resemblence between that and fibulae (the pins romans used to hold their cloaks on) is uncanny.

Also, some folks mentioned Democracy ( a greek notion ). However, when I say the pledge of allegience, I say, "...And to the REPUBLIC for which it stands..." The Roman Republic has many features our Founding Father drew upon in fashioning our own republic. They even borrowed the name "Senate" from the Romans, and applied it to our legislative body.

Drama/Comedy-the roots of almost every plot on time and movies came from Ancient Greece...roots Democracy is Greece, roots of Senate is Rome. Theaters is Greece, sporting stadiums is Rome. Really, can on forever, but you get the idea.

Regular bathing, and the plumbing which enables it. Both pioneered by the Romans.
