More memory is always better but you have to think about the cost and benefits of adding more memory. The greatest change in performance, at least with Windows XP, is going from 256 MB to 512 MB. But, going from 512 MB to 1 GB will not give you as much boost as seen in 256 MB to 512 MB. And, going from 1 GB to 2 GB will show an even smaller increase in performance. So, it will comes down to cost / benefits. Oh, BTW, you should always install RAM modules in pairs (eg. 512MB - 1GB and not 512 MB - 768 MB). i hope that answers your question.
