Kids in other countries grow up playing soccer/futbol/football. In the U.S. they don't. At least not until the last 10 years. Soccer is the fastest growing recreational sport in the U.S.,and is expected to pass the number one recreational sport, basketball by 2010. Soccer is very complicated to play. To be successful at it. You have to run with a ball at your feet, look for open players, or the goal, and when you find them you have to strike the ball just right to complete the pass, or the shot on goal. Meanwhile this other player is trying to get the ball from you, grabbing you, poking you, and kicking you in the shins. That's not to say anything about, trying to do a one touch shot with the ball coming a cross the box at 45 to 60 mph, and Your thinking I'm going to head this ball. Its is not a game people are born to do well at from the get go. Americans ( I'm one) don't have the attention spans to pursue the difficult things in life.If you don't know what the hype is about. I suggest finding a club, or pick up game some where, and experience it first hand.
To prove my point, watch a game, and count how many shot are off goal.On goal shots are between the post, and under the cross bar, if they don't go in the, goalie saved it, or it was deflected by a defender/back. A goal is 24ft wide and 8ft tall, and these are the best players in the world, and sometimes they can't hit a target that big.

People look at the scores of games (like today where both games were 1-0) and automatically conclude that a game with so little scoring can't be that exciting. I do wish that there were more goals scored, but even as is, soccer is a lot of fun to watch. People make runs at the goal and then get denied by great defensive plays. Give soccer an honest try and you'll be drawn into it!

Soccer is one of the few games that contains teamwork, a lot of skill, technique and it is great to sit and watch with your best buds and a crate of beer. The World cup is becoming so exciting, even people that don't like to watch it should just give it a try.. It's just a game, but what a game..

It's just fun....to play and watch. I watched England beat Ecuador today and it was really exciting. Our country doesn't cover soccer enough. it's because we have other exciting sports that aren't nearly as good in other countries like baseball, football and basketball(we ain't so good anymore but still...) If soccer were covered 8:00 primetime on fox it would be watched more if it didn't conflict with football, baseball, and basketball.

Because it appeals both men and women of all ages. It's elegant, not too violent, has a lot of strategy, you need a lot of skill and last, it's really ancient, and ancient stuff tends to be good because it has perfected itself through time (ex. chess). It's not just a sport but also a tradition in many countries, kids grow playing football (soccer) and hence acquire an even greater appeal for it.

Well It is a fun sport TO PLAY. But WATCHING it is freaking boring. All I see is two groups of guys kicking a ball up and down a field and try to kick it into a net. What is so exciting about that?!?!? Nothing.
