My proud South Africans, what's news in South Africa? Is the crime still bad? Has it maybe decreased? I'm all the way in australia and really miss S.A.

How is Australia?
While the crime rate is decreasing here in South Africa, something shocking happened yesterday in Jeppestown, Johannesburg. It was like a movie. Just read on this site.

Hi there! There is still crime here. Im not sure if the crime rate has gone up or down. I tried to look for an article on the South African crime rate but i could not get an updated one for 2005 or 2006. But what i read for the year 2004 is that our crime rate had decreased then but a lot can happen in over a year.

I live in Korea and chat with South Africans all the time. I call home every second day. And I haven't heard any bad news. No talks of any increase or decrease in crime. Just same ol' same ol'.

I really miss SA too, and living in Australia now. The crime is still as bad as when I left 6 years ago.
It's sad really, I'd love to go back, but I'd never be able to enjoy the lifestyle I do here in Australia. I get along better with South Africans too, Australians are just.... not for me.

Suggest YOU check the local newspapers via iol.co.za, news24, sabc.co.za, 702.co.za etc etc. even set up alerts via google, msn & yahoo for news alerts on SA..there are even "extreme" groups you can join via yahoo or msn who offer opions? about life in the new SA, I find it easier to read the local press to get an opinion, then read the exterme view makes a different read....
Also check out the political parties websites thats also full of funnies...if you wanna chat to some Saffers join a group at yahoogroups.com called homesicksouthafricans - just search yahoogroups for it

The crime has decreased, but if you are going downtown in the night then obviously you are looking for someone to knock you over the head! lol

Crime is still bad. I'd know since my grandfather got murdered on his farm a while ago. You did well by moving away.
