Well of course weight lifting but also pool exercises. Like getting inot the pool and just runnin helps alot. I have the fastest first step on my team.

I once heard that wind sprints help with acceleration. That is sprint(run as fast as you can) 60 yards rest maybe 10 minutes then do another sprint until you are out of breath. You do this several times a day and over a period of time you should see a significant difference.

Try plyometrics. There are alot of different drills in this type of training. You have to be careful to incorporate them into your training gradually, or you could really hurt yourself. However, there are alot of benefits from doing plyometrics. They really strengthen your leg muscles, and I think that this could help you alot.
