i think what you are looking for is called angel of death by jack higgins. the main character is sean dillion. the blurb about the book says he is the "returning hero" leading me to believe that if this is not the book then the author has written others with this ex-ira member sean dillon as a "hero" . i found it at www.barnes&noble.com
