of mine just died recently. i owe him a lot for being a one of a kind teacher to me, and a good friend too.
As he was already retired, it got difficult to hook up with him as i was working my butt off these days.
I wasnt able to attend his funeral, for no one was able to inform me, until i called up an officemate/ buddy.
Question: if i bring flowers for him to his grave, would he be able to appreciate my respects to him as a friend???

I honestly don't know the answer to that. There are things I could say ... but who really knows?

This I DO know though ... if he has family anywhere, take the flowers and a card with a letter in it to them, telling them all that their loved one meant to you. He definitely would have appreciated that, and they will also!

Beyond that ... be what he was to you to other people through your life. In that way you will be carrying on his legacy.

Blessings to you!

Of course! The same thing happened to me. This woman was a friend, mentor and a boss. She was there for me and taught me so much. Then I went off to school and ive never had the time to see her or anything. I always put it off becuase i was so busy. When she passed i felt so bad. i could attend the funeral also cause noone called. I brought a bbok we passed to each other back and forth and flowers.

Always believe that the person who has gone before us is able to comprehend what is happening here. It's all about faith, hope, caring, and sincerity. Your bringing the flowers is so important, not just out of respect for them, but for you as well. You lost someone you cared about, so why not show your feelings of loss in a way that you choose to. It is good..........So sorry........

You know, I would not take flowers to his grave. I would contact his family and tell them about his mentoring etc.. and ask where he would have liked monies to be donated..

At funerals they say in lieu of flowers donations can be made to:
Cancer Society
Leukemia Foundation
Humane Society
etc...

His family would love to know about the wonderful mentor friendship effect their father had .. you should contact the family.... my opinion..

It will certainly do YOUR heart a lot of good to pay your final respects to your friend.

As an aside, perhaps you could contact his family and pay your respects to them as well?
