The answer i would love to say is never but that's not true. so long as i have a grain of strength left I press on. I am a stubborn person but there comes a point when you realize if the goal is futile or not. When we were children our goal , pursuits, and passions were different then they're now when we are adults. I believe maturity has changed a lot of the goals and such I once had, the same with responsibility. life is fluid if you try to put it in a box it leaks or overflows because there is so much more to life than we know or could possible know.

Hi. Great question. You "give up" when you see the futility of trying to find something permanent in an impermanent world. When you see that death takes it all away in the end and u realize that the goals won't give you what you want than you give up. Then you really start to live at peace, but........, paradoxically, if you decide to, you then can set all kinds of goals and have passions and pursuits and u luv challenges, it's all good. It's just you're just not killing yourself to succeed at all costs and it takes no toll on u at all. It's not the goals that is the problem, it's being attached to the outcome of the goals(the pressure to succeed) and thinking u will arrive somewhere. That is what creates the stress and misery. The path is the goal.

I would say it happens when you have absolutely exhausted all options / resources available to you. Sometimes feelings do get in a way in this process but one should only focus on the task at hand and envision resolution in the end. All efforts should be put towards achieving the end goal, regardless how painful, difficult, exhausting, belittling or humiliating it might seem to us. So by putting ego aside and doing stellar performance, in the end, even if you do not reach your goal, you will have a huge sense of accomplishment and perhaps understand that the goal you started with perhaps was not meant to be achieved (and perhaps not the best one for you anyway), but will lead to something else, more powerful and beneficial to you. Consequently, this leads to adjustment of your vision and the birth of another goal. So you never really lose, only learn from the experience and modify your perceptions along the way, thus keeping an open mind and a door opened for endless other possibilities. Most importantly, you get to keep your sanity and optimistic outlook.

I would say when your losses exceed the value of success you might have obtained.
I don't mean just money, though. I mean in every aspect you invest into seeking the final goal, such as emotional stress, physical limitations, etc.
I think that true success is in the journey itself. You may discover a million new ways of failing in the process. If you do succeed, you can really call yourself an expert at it because you already know all the ways of failing or doing it wrong.
I think to decide when to give up should be based on what you are willing to sacrifice to get it. You should try to determine that level before the pursuit.

Interesting, I've often asked myself the same question. Let me start with high school I'd say beginning of mid Jr. Year was when I gave up. I still went to school but purely for the social factor. I didn't graduate. I was given several opportunities. I just didn't want to do the work. But not even two years after my graduating class graduated. I decided to go and take my GED and passed. They announced my name at graduation that year. In that same month I decided to take a test to get a license for my current occupation which I had been putting off for about 4 years. I purchased a truck last October that had miles and miles of problems. Countless mechanics told me to give up. I did temporarily. I spent about $200 trying to sell it then I just decided to fix it. I did most of the work myself. It just came to me I had no idea how to do it. I hate working for someone else I always have. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. Just this year I started my own company which is a battle in and of its self. The point I'm trying to get at is at certain points in my life I do give up. I honestly quit caring and say it's over. But eventually somewhere down the line it comes back and I finish it one way or the other. So my question to you is. Do we really give up? I personally feel as long as you have a breath in your body you haven't given up you've just put it off until some later time in your life. If you die your challenges, goals, passions and pursuits just become unfinished not abandoned. When I was a child my father owned a Candy company he made some wrong choices and had to close. 20 years later he is going to start another candy company. I don't think your passions ever die. Or your challenges, goals, or pursuits just re-directed.

Are you still alive and conscious? Then you still have something to do!! I believe what i was taught way back when, that every human comes to earth for a reason. We are given the power of choice. Our only purpose is to find the path we are attuned to. For those who find it, the rewards are boundless. For those that struggle, without getting there, it is bittersweet and tough, but still very, very worthwhile. For those that do not try, they may as well be dead.
I almost died once for my beliefs. I would face the risk again. Every day should be extraordinary in some way. It takes its toll, for sure, and people like me make many more mistakes, are ostracized, subject to criticism and ridicule, alienated by the family, etc. We burn out, seek therapy, suffer from depression. but it is said somewhere that in order to burn out, one needs to actually have been on fire at one time. I woudl know the heat and cold than be comfortbale my whole life.

Never give up!
We all have our dreams, some are far fetched and may seem out of reach, but when we try to reach them we get a feeling of satisfaction in trying then even when failed we succeeded if we have the knowledge we gave it all we got.
I tried for 16 years to reach a goal, the biggest challenge ever but failed. I don't really feel as if I failed because by failing I actually reached my goal, it required me to make a few changes and accept I couldn't quite have it all my own way but I did reach my goal

Each item has its breaking point. Some items you can decide from the start what will make you quit; others..it depends on the path you are traveling. Depends on your passion and what you really want.
I am currently going thru something and maybe people...who don't count...are saying to quit; but those who do count want me to continue. I am continuing. I can be hopeless at times, but the plain fact that I WILL win and PISS everyone off, keeps me going.
YES, it WILL be worth it.

Hi..
Never give up..
Never surrender..
"This is how hope works: it looks for the good in people, and situations, rather than finding the worst; it discovers what can be done instead of throwing up its hands at what can't; it considers problems large and small, as opportunities ..to move forward!..
When it would be easier to quit; it makes us human, helping us find the very best in ourselves for those around us and the situations we face! " ...
So, never give up!!
My regards!;)

You give up on your goals and dreams in this life when they close the lid and throw dirt on the box.
