Society has shoved violence in there faces over and over again. Look at television and movies, look at music videos. And parents are afaid to disipline their children anymore. When I was kid if you screwed up you got your *** whipped, depending on what you did, maybe even beat. As long as the beatings weren't an every day occurence and you had done something to deserve it I don't see why whipping your kids should be a problem. Society has taught young people that they can do whatever they want and probably suffer no consequences.

Because it and other disrespectful behavior are being modeled 24 hours a day on the media (television). Consider reality TV, if you want to call it that. Every form of rudeness possible is being modeled there. If we don't see adults acting properly how are kids supposed to? Also other institutions and convention which help society even things out are being degraded constantly due to the ill effects of capitalism gone awry. Today people just giveaway to their frustrations and have no models for successful negotiation. Also families which used to stick together do not.

Violence Leads to Violence

Violence is a learned behavior. Children learn violent behaviors from their family and peers, as well as observe it in their neighborhoods and in the community at large. These behaviors are reinforced by what youth see on television, on the Internet, in video games, movies, music videos, and what they hear in their music.

When children are disciplined with severe corporal punishment or verbal abuse, or when they are physically or sexually abused, or when they witness such behavior in their home, it is not surprising that they behave violently toward others.
