I question your numbers about which airplane shot down more of the other throughout the war. The Messerschmidt did do a bit better early in the war, 1.2:1. Overall the Spit was a 2:1 winner. Early in the war the Germans were battle hardened experienced pilots from the Spanish civil war as well as fighting elsewhere in Europe so pilot skills and tactics weren't really equal, but the Brits learned fast. Also, the British objective was to go after the bombers not fight Messerschmidts which also put them at a tactical disadvantage. Also, which Spitfire. The Spitfire MK XIV with 2050 horsepower used at the end of the war was an almost completely different airplane than the 850 HP MK I and 1175 horsepower MK II used in the Battle of Britain. Throughout most the war the Spit was a faster more maneuverable superior airplane to the Messerschmidt.

Without a picture of the sticker you have, or a description, I can't tell you which of the possible meanings apply to the sign on your truck, but the most common meanings I know of are the Super-marine Spitfire, a British RAF fighter plane from World War II, and the Triumph Spitfire, a British sports car. The cars are nice, but the fighter planes REALLY deserve recognition!
They were the mainstay of the RAF, and gave their pilots an edge in out-maneuvering Nazi pilots bent on bringing the "Blitz" to Britain. Hitler actually called off the proposed invasion of England, which the Nazis might have won, because he concluded the Luftwaffe couldn't achieve decisive air superiority over the RAF fighter pilots and their Spitfires!
For that reason, some historians conclude that the Spitfire not only won the Battle of Britain for the British, but helped secure the eventual defeat of the Nazis. Any time I see any reference to a Spitfire, I know I smile and give it a thumbs up!

The supermarine spitfire was the most beautiful fighter aircraft ever designed. It took part in the defense of Britain during the Battle of Britain. (together with its sister fighter the Hawker Hurricaine). The Spitfire was an even match for the German Messerschmidt 109, it was more manouverable due to its elliptical wings. The mark 4 Spitfire surpassed the Messerschmidt and solved the carburettor problem)
