I don't know about the DNS part, but there is a product call a slingbox that is sold through slingmedia.com and in best buy that will probably work with your DVR to accomplish what you are trying to do.

Your question seems to be missing some things. There's no connection between DNS and DVR's. A DVR accepts video input. Some also allow the transfer of video via IP, but it's not the same mechanism as video in, if for example you're talking about a Tivo. For a Tivo, the video format is Mpeg2, so you can now transfer mpeg2 files to it that used the proper codecs, and watch those videos on the Tivo. That is not the same as the capture of a Live video stream.

So... if you have a remote camera system with a video out (coax, svg etc.) and you were to plug that into a DVR, then the DVR would be happy.
