Electromagnetism is not necessarily greater than gravitation. It depends on how strong the force is. For instance, on a small planet like mercury, gravitation is small, but on a large planet like Neptune, gravitation is much greater because of the difference in mass.

You can say the same about electromagnetism , that depending on the strength of the source of the electromagnetism, the magnetic pull will be greater or lesser.

Both the gravitational and electrostatic forces are forces which work at a distance. The gravitational constant, like the electrostatic force, follows an inverse square law.
The force of either is dependent on the amount present reduced by the square of the distance.
Human senses are not able to detect all the forces to which we are being subject. When we experiment with magnets or electricity, it seems that they are stronger than the gravity in the iron bars or copper wires. Yet gravity is moving the whole Earth, and everyone and everything on it at tremendous speeds. We just are not aware of it.
;-D Science is awesome!

Gravity depends upon large amounts of matter to begin to have any effect. Electromagnetism depends upon elemental properties of atoms in order to have an effect. Atoms don't have much matter. Two small items placed near each other will not move towards each other thereby overcoming the earth's gravity holding them "down" in place....unless they are two magnets or magnet/piece of metal and their magnetic fields connect. then they snap together and tell gravity to go take a hike or something.

Of the four forces in nature: electromagnetism, weak nuclear force, strong nuclear force and gravity, gravity is the weakest.
