Sex is one thing that can aggravate a yeast infection but doesn't probably cause it. You have certain bacteria in your body for a reason and when they get out of balance, you can get a yeast infection even if you've never been sexually active. Some of the things that can bring on a yeast infection are taking certain antibiotics, especially long term, not keeping your private area clean and dry is another. If you want to clear one up, they have over the counter medications and you eat yogurt, avoid white sugar, drink lots of water and keep the area dry and clean.

I have Candida, which is the condition of having too much yeast in my system. As a result, my husband has gotten yeast rashes and we occasonally pass them back and forth, most likely from sexual contact. However, you can get a yeast infection without sexual contact as well. If you are prone to yeast you need to avoid coffee and sugar and products with yeast in them such as beer and bread. Get some Acidophillis pills at a health food store, preferably the refigerated LIVE acidophillis, it works best and keep it refigerated. Take them regularly to get rid of yeast and prevent future breakouts. Give them to your hubby too. Also, the vaginal cream for yeast infections works great on the rash if you get a rash in the moist areas of your skin, like under your breasts. Wash and pat dry and put the cream on. If you have regular yeast problems and good health insurance your doctor can put you on a pill that will help if you don't want to go the all natural acidophillis method. Good Luck.

We all have yeast in our bodies. Much of it is beneficial. When something gets out of balance, like a compromised immune system or an allergic reaction, a yeast overgrowth can occur.

Yeast likes warm, moist environments. The vaginal canal is a perfect home for the itchy little beasties.
