It's difficult to advise for a system as old as yours. Since you have Windows 98, I assume you are searching for free software. I would suggest the "Spyware Info Forum" since they review a lot of free software. Also, since you are working in a Windows environment, why not contact them (they have several categories, one of which is [used to be, I think still is] Windows 98 with a lot of very knowledgable people.
If you are thinking of proprietary software, most of the "professionals" (some are true "pro's," some aren't) are pushing Norton and Webroot. Perhaps one or both has a free or inexpensive version.

Hi, I recently got a virus and no money so I searched the web for a free virus remover and found a TOTALLY 100% FREE virus, spyware, adware, glitch remover that also frees up unused disk space and it was totally free, no charge at all, not even to remove the virus. It is by Windows and it is so new, it is still in beta stages but it works great. If I were at home the link would be posted below for you but I am not home so I don't have the link but if you contact me I will give it to you. I found it by looking in the favorites in the links that came with my computer. It is Windows. Maybe you can find it. It works great!

Hi!

Ad-Aware SE, Spybot Search and Destroy are the only and most recommended Anti-Spyware for Windows 98. Also SpywareBlaster (helps prevent spyware) is compatible with Windows 98.

However, since you are having trouble with your registry. CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) works with Windows 98, and has a great registry cleaner in it.

AVG (www.grisoft.com) has a great free Anti-Virus that works with Windows 98. I highly recommend that.

I LOVE Spy Sweeper! It's about $20 and I run it at least once a day and find at least 3-5 traces each time! You can download the program off the Internet. It's at webroot.com. Hope it helps!

You only need the best if you are planning on doing some real dirty porno watching. Because this is most likely the case, I will not say what is the best since I never give advice to perverts.

So far I have found the best program to be AntiVir Gaurd across the board..... www.free-av.com

As far as the registry errors, it helps prevent those issues, but you are better off formatting the computer and starting a fresh.
