Toss a football and noticehow it spins and as well how each end wabbles. the front end of the ball will wabble to the so called east while the back end of the ball is wabbling to the so called west. If you put a bright light beside it you will notice that the end that has wabbled to the light is brighter and the other end is not getting as much light. So the bright end would be summer. In a few spins you will notice the other end will wabble so it is getting the bright light and the other is not.. now it is winter on the end that was summer.
So same with the Earth, when the north is getting the most sun it is summer every where in the north and at the same time the south will get less sun and be winter every where in the south.

Yes, June 21 is the first day of Summer in the States and the first day of Winter Down Under.
The reason is that we ARE on opposite sides of the Earth, so now, Australia is furthest away from the Sun and we are closest.
Of course, dependant on where you are in regards to the Equator will mean the degree of hot/snow, etc that you may have. Canada gets much more snow than Texas, because Texas is further south.

The Earth is divided into hemispheres at the equator: the Northern and the Southern. The seasons are reversed. When it is summer in the North, it is winter in the South.
On June 21st, it is Summer in the Northern and Winter in the Southern. Since the USA lies in the Northern Hemisphere, it currently is in the Summer season.
Take a look at the attached image for another explaination.

You have a computer with access to all kinds of geographical information. This will involve actually learning about the area you wish to know about so you can ask the correct questions to get the answers you want. Look up the USA and then check on points in the northern USA. You will get factual information about any location you seek. Or, you can go to the weather channel again after having learned about the area you wish to know about.

I'm in Georgia, in the southeastern US. In my location we are very hot & very dry today. 102 degrees farenheit 2 days ago (June 23). Summer just started so we have a very long way to go to get any cool temperatures. Our cool weather will start in late October.

It should be winter where you are now, not here!
South of the Equator is currently in it's colder period, receiving less insolation from the Sun.
