I use Yahoo Messenger the most because it ties in with my e-mail account and everything else and is very easy.
Next I use MSN because I can use the video conversation on a full screen level so I can see the person I'm talking to clearly.

Personally I use all 3 at the same time everyday at work with Trillian. with trillian there's no difference in how they look or feel, but let's talk about their individual clients on windows (i wouldn't know about other platforms).
AIM: That's where I know the most ppl from the US. The interface is decent and faily easy. Features are moderate, except the file transfer which I always get max speed, so that's how I do a lot of my file transfers when there's a firewall issue. AIM doesn't have foreign language support though (thus why usually only used in the US)
MSN: Has to be my favorite. All my friends who are not in the US are on MSN. Good interface, and lots of features (quite a few fun but useless ones). File transfer crawls from my experience, it's like there's some kind of speed limit. The initial connection to the server kills my wireless connection for a few seconds which I think is annoying. Full foreign language support when language support is activated on WinXP.
ICQ: The first chat client I ever used. Wastes too much system resources (or so it was when I was using it). Decent interface. Finding your friends is an unsually unpleasant experience compared to the other services. I just use it for work nowadays because that's what we're using at the office. I believe there's a way to secure your conversations, but I've never used it. For personal use though, I wouldn't suggest it, at least not as your primary chat client.

I like to use AIM because all my friends have it. None of my friends have Yahoo or ICQ and only my family members have MSN.
I like the profile feature of AIM.

None of them. I think they are all a waste of time and energy.
