no one wants to admit to liking him or buying his records or going to his concerts, but i would suggest Elton john. he's been around a long time and has made a gazillion dollars, so he must be doing something right. you can use this theory on any genre of music you decide you might want to try. there is good and bad in all genres if you ask me. try them all.

I was a heavy metal fan and nothing else. until I took a music appreciation course. It focused on the oldest pop music genres. Classical and Opera. What I took away from that was that all good music no matter what kind paints a picture or tells a story in your mind. After wich I was able to listen to just about anything that had a story to tell. I still can't stomach the "crank-it-out" for the masses stuff. It exists in all genres and is easy to spot. Billy Ray Cirus, Spice girls etc.

well there are alot of different types out there, you could try some Lynard Skynard, .38 Special, Foghat, Aerosmith, Ac/Dc., Janis Joplin, the doors, the beatles, the hair bands such as: Guns and roses, warrent, slaughter, tesla, winger, poison, kiss, skid row, white lion, but you will have to look and decide for your self hopefully this helps. sorry such a long list
