In most cases the fan will cause a voltage drop,,try checking it with the light,s on too,,watch how much of a drop you actually have,,a little drop is normal,but a big one means there is something trying to use he power,,but cant,,if it is the fan it will burn the relay out in no time,,there is also a fuseable link that it will burn out in the wiring harness,and believe me you don't want that to burn out,,there kind of hard to find,,if you don't have any loose belt,s or loose connection,s,,look at the charge hand,,at the exact moment the fan comes on,,and if i tdoes drop when it comes on,,and if the fan is running normal,,you could have a alternator,,going bad,,maybe this will help you some.

It could be, not real sure what you saying. IF, the Voltage dropping it may be the Alternator or Belt slipping, which should Squeal most times. Make sure the Belt feel firm and tight. But, your first thought seems logical as the fan would not come on until it hot. What you may try is disconnect the fan wires and drive it then. IF, you go fast, say 50 mph +/-, the air will cool without the fan. So, you should not overheat unless you stop for a long time. Then if the problem there it not the fan.

Only if the fan motor is locked up. When a dc motor stops and power is applied, it will draw max current. Raise the hood and run the engine, see if the fan is running normally are sticking on something.
