I have to fire a guy tomarrow morning. Sounds simple, but it is just not me!!!! I don't want to. but I know I have to. I have tried everything I can think of to make this guy profitable and he still falls short. I have done it before and it doesn't get easier! I guess I should be glad it is hard for me to do this..... I tell myself that it shows I am not a cold hearted person. What do you think?

Fireing a person is never easy althought George Jettsons boss sure makes it look easy. If he is hindering progress, not doing what he is supposed to be doing or what ever then you should. Its part of your job perameters. If you dont do it then other employee's will see you as soft and you boss might see you as incompetant.

I agree with you. I have done that on numerous occasions and I never liked it. But I really used it as a last resort, sounds like you do it too. It is unpleasant part of the job but by doing it the company will profit by getting rod of unproductive employee. The only advice I can give you is just make sure you have a witness with you when you sit down to talk to the employee-especially if its a female. You never want to do such thing one by one.

I used to be a mobile security supervisor and I've fired people before, but it's for stupid things like falling asleep on the job, and having their wives with them on sites (don't ask...I didn't even want to know).
But for someone who keeps trying their hearts out, yeah, I can see how that can be a little difficult. Try this: tell your newly ex-employee that there are better things for him/her out in the job market. A classic line is, "Things just aren't working out." I guess it's just like dumping someone! lol

I assume that this person is already aware of the issue or issue's that have brought him or herself to this situation. If you have made at least two attempts to resolve the problem the employee has fired himself. Meaning that the employee should be prepared for this action because it has been discussed on one or more occasions.

I agree with you. If you have a heart it is tough. I've been in your position more times than I like. You have to do what you have to do. Usually it goes better than it is going in your mind right now. So just suck it up and do it ASAP in the morning and get it over with.

your mind is a powerful thing, and be optimistic. don;t you think that it is good to fire that person for the good of the business. you were the ONE to fire the people because your boss realizes that you have great charisma and outstanding people skills. you are creating a better environment for your job. you are also helping your colleagues. good luck
