I have been asked to be the best man and wedding planner for my best friends civil partnership ceremony. I want to avoid overdone ideas and having rainbow--everything, so what would be some nice touches to suggest to my friend.

what about your friends is unique. Are they the flashy in your face kinda people or the laid back chill out kind. Do they hate massive soirees or do they revel in everything fabulous. Think of color tones that compliment the setting, if it is on the beach, beach colors, at night lots of soft lighting and softly contrasted colors, in the winter then darker richer colors are better....you get the picture. Basically ask them to give you a couple of ideas of things they would like and then you decide which of those choices you will use and run with it. What is beautiful to them? What makes them feel at home? You can make the theme something that personally expresses who they are.
You probably won't like my idea to go ancient Greek, as in Alexander the Great. Also, the Greeks were cool with homosexuality.
