Mainstream superheros only please (you know, Superman, Spiderman, Batman, etc.). In what years/order did they appear?

Yep..Superman was the first mainstream superhero.
Superman is a fictional character and the staple superhero of DC Comics. He first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June 1938 and is often considered the first character to embody the particular combination of traits that characterize the modern superhero.

Superman 1st appeared in Action Comics #1 1936 Batman 1st appeared in Detective Comics #13 Spiderman 1st appeared in Amazing Fantasy in the 60s, there were already many heroes then Captain America appeared in the 40s, Captain Marvel in the late 30s I believe and at 1 time outsold Superman prompting a copyright lawsuit by DC which Fawcett eventually gave upon on around the end of WWII when sales declined and DC later bought the character.
