Knock (short-story)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

The first publication of the short-story"Knock", written by Fredric Brown, is widely revered as being the shortest science-fiction short-story ever created. Published in the December 1948 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories, it measures out to be only seventeen words long. The story itself concerns the last human and his isolationism.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door...
Due to its utter shortness that was a prevalent ingenuity of Fredric Brown's mastery over the form, there have been three different radio adaptations (Dimension X, X Minus One and Sci Fi Channel's Seeing Ear Theatre) extending the story to concern Walter Phelan, the last man on Earth, and how he was preselected by an invading insectoid alien race, collectively known as Zan, to be a specimen in their zoo of exotic Earth flora and fauna.

If you listen to the radio adaptation, you would hear that it would require hardly any special effects to make the film. All you would have to do is check to make sure the story is in the public domain.

How about a film at the beach,
asking people do they think the
oceans are clean & safe enough
to enter the sea for fun ...
See how many go to the beach
& not go in the water,
ask the ones who seem not to
enter the water, why that is so ....
And the ones who do; if they have any
concern about toxic infections to
our bodies ...
It would be a simple film, yet explore
the views of people & our concerns
about oceans & stories about,
Oil spills and other waste products
& such which enter our oceans ...

P.S.
Make sure you have a grown-up with you !!

You might want to try writing a bunch of topic/subjectsdown and then put them in a hat and pick one. Go to the setting that the topic would take place at, create characters, and just improvise! Then once you get an idea of your characters relationship with one another and the problem, turn on the camera and just do it. Improvise and eventally you will feel like the characters and make great movie. Good Luck! and remember to just have fun with it!
