I swear by Tiger Balm. It's easy to find in most drug/grocery stores.
The main ingredients are Camphor oil and Menthol.
It has a strong, but not unpleasant smell. And it works, which is the whole idea.
I know people who swear by chinese dermal patches you can only buy in Chinatown. The main ingredient is chili peppers, I think. But they stink to high heaven, and they're very hot. You have to be tough to use them. Go into any Chinese medicine shop and describe them, the shop attendant will know what you mean.

I work for a pain specialist and he highly recommends the pain rub by the name of "Zostrix". I believe the "active" ingredient in this is capsacian(sp).

I heard on the radio that Thermogesic is good with no smell. But I think you have to call to order it. I haven't seen it in stores.

Peppermint is also helpful. Try using the Chinese linement "White Flower" - available at most Asian markets.
