I want to network two computers so they can share the same internet connection. I have road runner.
What else do I need to the network the 2 computers besides a router.

You just need a router and network cable to connect the two computers. make sure they have a nic card in both you can find out by looking on the back of the computer if it has one big phone jack in the back not two together then you good to go.

if you're only going to connect 2 computers you can skip the router if you don't already have one. Without a router you have 2 options to connect 2 computers back to back:
1) make sure each computer has a NIC (network interface card) and use a cross over cable to directly connect them. the cross over cable is different from a normal straight through cable that you would use to connect to a router.
2) another option is to use firewire assuming that both computers have a firewire port available. this will also give you higher throughput compared to a typical 10/100 nic (from 400 to 800 Mbps depending on your firewire interface). you'll have to enable the firewire connection in the networking settings on each computer for this to work.

just some cable, that's it. make sure you get a router and not just a hub or a switch.
