You need to make sure the 98 computer has something shared, like a folder. You'll need the file and printer sharing enabled on both machines. If you're using a firewall you may have to manually enable communications using the IP addresses of the machines on the network.

And both systems must be using the same network workgroup name like WORKGROUP. And obviously they have to be on the same network. Both must have at least TCP/IP protocols installed, as well.

if you network 98 se computers together they use the workgroup name workgroup and windows xp uses MSHOME

on the xp computer make a disk to setup network on other computers and use that disk on the 98se computer to set it up and reboot and it will work with network cables and a hub I got 4 computers 2 xp 1 ME and the other 98se and they are all networked and run great!!!

You can't they don't play well with each other.

If your on a domain then you can use a shared resource on the server to transfer the files you want.
