I have pretty fair skin (especially my legs) and I stay out of the sun a lot because I don't want wrinkles, skin cancer, and the sun really doesn't tan me, I just freckle a lot.

I don't like the smell or the look of the fake tans, either. Should I just deal with the smell for the sake of looking good? My husband likes my skin either way but prefers natural tones. I don't want to look like a freak at the lake though. :-)

I need some honest opinions here from people who don't know me. ;-)

I have a fair skinned friend who works too much to get sun and doesn't go out in it IF she had the chance. I wish I could start all over with my skin the way YOU are now--with the skin I was born with before I burned it all those years in the sun.

I'll bet you look ma-ve-lus, dahling.

Truly--it is attractive.. I would love to know I stood out in a crowd with pretty skin, ya know?

I have very pale skin also and I refuse to tan because of the same reasons you listed and when I try to tan I get sunburned. So many people tell me "You need a tan" and I ask "Why do I need a t tan??" I am fine in my own skin and I have learned the hard way that as long as I am happy with it, it really shouldn't bother other people that I don't have a tan. If friends or whomever don't like you suntan then to heck with them. Beauty is a lot more than skin deep...

I have very very fair skin. I dont tan. I get more complments on how beautiful my skin is than you can imagine. Its best for you not to tan. Your not tan for a reason, so dont force it...embrace it. While your friends are at the tanning bed destroying their skin and aging faster than you can imagine, you will stay young for so much longer. I am 25 and my skin looks like most 14 year olds I know. Use suncreen and love who you are. If you feel you need a tan. Use a self tanner. I recommend using Sun Laboratories. It is the best ever and it doesnt smell. Go to Amazon.com to find it. I use Tan Overnight and Instant Self Tanning spray (the silver bottle). You wont be disappointed, I promise.

Hey Chick, Im an African-American, but, I think that you should do what makes you comfortable; wonderfully, your husband, as most should, likes you either way, and thats gr8!!! I personally, am attracted to, an dating a Caucasian guy, an hes not fair-skinned, but, could use sun, and looks all the more better for it, bottom line, if you do do the sun, protect yourself, if you dont get a fake bake/tan, you wont suffer later w/skin cancer, wrinkles and the like! whichever you decide, Enjoy your summer!!!

If you are pasty white, (my opinion) especially since it is summer is to get some kind of "fake tan".
Oil of Olay & Jergans both make lotions that subtly tan the skin and I think they look pretty good and natural. Also there is a tanner called "Fake Bake" and it looks really good too but you have to be really careful when applying it so it doent streak.
Try the lotions first....they are cheap and you can get them at any drug store. But the real point of the matter is that if you are happy/confortable with your skin tone than leave it alone and dont worry about what others might think.

Personally, I'm a firm believer in anyone doing what they feel is best for their body, whether it be staying out of the sun to avoid skin cancer, improving ones diet to help in their overall well being or even abstaining from drinking because it only does more harm than good.

Your husband is very lucky to have a wife who is confident in this respect, and not going with the flow, just because it looks good to everyone else. In the end, you should only do things to make him happy, and likewise of him.

Myself personally, I think its way more sexier for a woman to be comfortable with how she looks, and to highlight natural beauty, not covering it up under gobs of spackle like makeup. Besides, women who tan are a dime a dozen, and generally are boring. Afterall they cant think for themselves, they're too busy worrying about what others think about how they look.

The bottom line is this, if your husband is happy if you dont tan, then good, dont tan. Go to the river, and be white, just whatever you do, be happy with what you are doing.

Here is what you can do to satisfy both yourself and your husband..every so often go to a tanning salon, that way you honor your desire to avoid the sun on your fair skin and also give your hubby the thrill of seeing you in the natural tones that he likes.

not at all, the fake and bake thing is very unattractive, and a girl with fair skin that tries to hard to get sun isnt a great look either

Hey.. I'm an Indian( Asian) gal . U don't know what gals do here to have fair skin. I'm very fair and I 'm getting questions everyday as to how to become fair. Why spoil your health and beauty for a tan?
