My book is entitled, "Sail Away With Me." It is a 60 page book of heartfelt poems that the whole family can enjoy. My poems deal with: love and love's losses, marriage, infidelity, romance, death, inspirational poems, dedication poems, poems that will make you laugh, cry, feel, think, and most of all, hope.

Here's some tips for getting reviews:

Know who your customers are and ask yourself what they read, what they watch, and what they listen to so you can identify the categories of media and create the right custom-targeted media lists.

Write a news release that's designed to catch your audience's attention, teach them something, and make sure they understand what it is and why it's more important than anything else they have before them.

Tell me a story, give me a local news angle, touch my heart (make me laugh or cry), hit me in my pocketbook, or make my stomach turn over. Do this as many times as possible in a one-page news release in 30 seconds or less, and you will succeed in getting publicity.

Finally, follow up, follow up, follow up, and follow up some more. Start calling. Keep calling. Calling five to ten people a day is a must, or do what you can. Learn what media want by asking them to tell you what they want, and get that information to them. If you learn what the media want and give the media what they want, they'll give you what you want—free publicity. Don't expect it to come to you; go out and make it happen. Act—Do it. Do it. Do it some more. And don't ever stop doing it.

Good luck and congratulations!

My husband is part of a network of writers that read and constructively critique each other. i called him, and he will answer when he comes home, and edit this answer,
Dear Poetess,
Well it would have been better to have had your poems critiqued before they went to print. However now that they are in print, you could go to your local library and ask the librarian to give it a read and an honest review. If the librarian gives it a thumbs up you can send your book to your local paper with a note stating that librarian gave it a good review that way the paper sees that you are trying to get honest reviews.
The thing about poetry is it is very subjective, what you and I may really enjoy someone else may not. I am also a poet and have written a few narrative poems with a children's theme. I intend for them to become children's books.
I am a member of an on line writers group and a member of a local poetry group as well. You should check in your area to see if there are any writers groups or poetry groups. If not, see if you can start one.
I have been writing poetry on and off for over twenty years, and seriously writing poetry for special occasions like weddings and graduations etc for the last three years.
If you'd like I would be happy to take a look at your poems and give you another poets take on them.
If so just contact my wife through here.

I see you are self-published by Publishamerica. I've noticed a lot of these sorts of questions by authors who've paid for their books through that publisher. All of them have asked only 1 or 2 questions - always pertaining to their newly "published" book. At least you are honest and admit to being the author. Most of the other authors just ask to read such and such amazing book, without admitting a financial interest.

Does publishamerica suggest you use YA as a marketing tool? I've heard they are unscrupulous. There is a massive warning about them on the Predator and Editors website - URL below.

Anyway, congratulations on your achievement and good luck selling it. Poetry is always hard to sell.

It is a little late for constructive criticism if your book is already printed. I suspect you mean someone who reviews books for a living and can mention your book in a newspaper.

Start at the bottom; send a copy to the book reviewer on the largest newspaper in your city. If they like it, send another to the reviewer on largest newspaper in your state.

That is great to hear!! I can't really help you, mostly because I hate sappy poems.
But I can tell you people who can!!
You should go find some family friends, and find some professional people to (on websites, in real life, etc) give you and HONEST critique.
And if you have any guppy friends that are always like "Oh my Betty Sue, you should read this book!" Get them to read it, because honestly, those people are the kinds of people who read books like that.

GOOD LUCK!!

You probably need a professional reviewer. The 10-yr-olds on here are NOT a good choice.

If you are already published why do you need a qualified person to review it?
