Before you make a doctor's appointment, I would suggest reading _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It may make the visit unnecessary, or, even if not, it may save you time, money, and discomfort once you *do* need medical help.

I married my husband a week before he left to go to Iraq. We tried all that week and when he came home on R and R we tried for those 2 weeks. He came home in January and we've been trying since then. I just found out last week i'm 5 weeks pregnant. It just takes time. We just got settled into our new apartment. That had something to do with it. The thought of feeling safe and secure. You should already be going to the doctor if you are trying to conceive. Take Folic Acid at least 800 mg a day. If you aren't already. You should take that before, after, and during pregnancy. It helps develop the baby's spinal cord and brain properly. Sorry it's so long. Hope this helps.

It is not abnormal for pefectly healthy, fertile couples to take up to a year, sometimes more, to conceive. If you are under 30 years old and have time to simply enjoy trying, I would not worry or consult a doctor unless it's been over a year. If you are over 30 and have been trying more than six months, for your own peace of mind, I would go get yourself checked out (and your partner) just to make sure there are no issues (low sperm count, "lazy" sperm, endometriosis, PCOS etc.). As an aside, I would highly recommend a product called "Fertile Focus". It is a small microscope that comes in a lipstick shaped tube. You put a drop of saliva on it each day and, when you are ovulating, your saliva shows up under the microscope as having a fern-type pattern. It almost looks like the shadow of pine tree needles. My husband and I used this when we were trying to conceive and we got pregnant the first month we tried. I attribute our success to our use of this product because it allowed me to pinpoint my fertile days precisely. Very helpful, as my periods were irregular and it would have been difficult for me to know otherwise.

We've been trying for 2 1/2 years. About the time we'd been trying for a year and a half, we went to the doc. We know now why we aren't getting pregnant and what we have to do in order to get that way.

Most doc's won't help you until you've been trying for at least a year. The exception to this is if you are over 35, in which case they won't help you until you've been trying for 6 months.

Only after 12 months of trying to become pregnant with your partner should you go see a doctor. sometimes it just takes time. As long as your ready and understand the consequences, keep trying. have fun and enjoy your couple time and ur pre pregnancy body! lol

Took us 3 years. We both got checked after 1 year and found out nothing was wrong. We kept trying off and on. When we were about to go to a specialist, bam! pregnant. I would say get tested at 1 year and then go to a specialist at 2 years.

If you have been trying for more than a year to become pregnant, and have been unsuccessful thus far, go see a doctor.

My wife and I tried every day for 3 years with nothing. We decided to stop and didn't have any sex at all for 3 months. We decided to have sex one weekend we saw each other (we had broken up) and BAMM!! baby boy 9 months later!! Keep trying, but see your doctor too. It can't hurt.
