if you go over a certain mph. I think you use it when you go over 50 mph.

Overdrive is basically an added gear so you should use it when you get up to cruising speed. It allows the engine to run at a lower RPM thus saving you gas.

I think you use the over drive option when you are on a freeway and on a constant high speed, that is how you will save gas, specially when you don't need to step on brakes constantly.

If you have an automatic it isn't so much when to use it as when not to use it. You should not use it when pulling a trailer. You should not use it when going down a hill if you have to brake excessively. You should not use it when going up hill if it is shifting excessively.

Any time you are in the top gear. It is usually not good on hills or when towing a trailer.

u should leave it in ovdrve casue most cars will auoto matilcally give you the best gear...unless you drive like i do...then u need to shift!
