I live in south Louisiana and have heard that I can save seeds from an over-ripened (yellowish-green) cucumber, but I am unsure of the procedure. Do I remove the seeds now and dry them? Do I dry them outdoors? Please send detailed info if possible. I picked the cucumber today. Thanks in advance.

My parents used to do this procedure by letting the cucumbers mature on the vine (turning yellow) then cutting it off and setting it aside in the sun until the cucumber dries up naturally (the cucumber will usually split and dry-up by itself) and the seeds are also dried. Make sure you protect it from birds and other animals by placing it in a plastic box covered with a wire-screen.

GOOD LUCK!

I suggest that you take the seeds out,put them on a paper towel to dry.Lay them out so they won't be touching. When completely dry,put in a small glass jar til time to plant, but be sure they are dry if not they'll mold.We don't plant cucumbers in the fall where I live, but good luck.

My grandfather used to do this with his garden veggies every year. Scoop out the seeds and let them dry on a paper towel. Put them in a small paper sack, label them, and store in a dry dark place, like a closet storage room. Don't store in the room with your washer and dryer because the humidity will have a negative impact on the seeds.
