A few years ago I jumped into a public pool to grab my then 5 year old who had gotten in too deep and was starting to struggle. I pulled him up out of the water, he spit out a mouthful of water, asked for a towel to wipe his face and was perfectly fine. That really happened. But in my dream, I dive in for him and always miss him. How can I stop having this dream? I dream it probaly once a month.

It seems to me that you have a need to protect him. You will always be ther for him.. Of course he is just fine. It might be a fear of feeling the lose of someone. To get ride of that dream, is not feel that he will be there. Reasure yourself that you are OK. with that thought

I love the "your parents..." type answers.

My guess (and I'm not a psychologist, but I did say at a Holiday Inn Express once)... as a parent it has created the "what if" syndrom ... what IF you weren't there to grab him. It's a common fear for parents not to be able to protect their kids. There is something that is triggering your dream. Next time you have it think of what happened that day, write down some things and see if there is any common event each time you have the dream.

Your dream is based on a very normal fear of mothers: the fear that you will be unable to help your child at a time when they need you the most. To stop having this dream, you have to accept the fact that you are not Superman, or Supermom, and that there will be times when your child/children will have to fight for themselves. OMG, yes it is going to be so hard to hold back, but unless you want them depending on you until THEY are ready to retire, you will have to accept it. GL

try to think of other things or if it is very unpleasant try speaking to a psychologist I also have re-occurring dreams sometimes and i just try to sleep in the most comfortable position on my bed (other people have other positions) if you are comfortable then you will have pleasant dreams.
