I just started a new job and have only been there three weeks my boss is really nice but I scared that if I tell him too early I may be fired or edged out at my job and I really can't afford to loose it. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Wait until the probationary period has ended and then share the great news. They cannot legally fire you because of your pregnancy, but thay can edge you out just like you said. Wait at least 3 month after the job has begun to share. Good Luck!!

If you tell your boss you are pregnant and you are fired or edged out of your job, that is an open and shut case of illegal discrimination and you could sue the company and your boss for damages. If your boss truly is a nice person and you work for a decent company, this should not be a problem as long as you are doing your job in a fully satisfactory manor. You are also entitled to pregnancy/disability leave. Check out the link to see more about your rights

PS MB's answer also has good advice. Some of the others are pretty bogus.

I was in the same situation except I knew that I was pregnant before I was hired and held off telling my supervisor until I completed the first trimester. If for some reason you have a miscarriage, then it is more likely to happen in the first trimester and why get the word out until you know that your baby has a better chance of carrying full term. I was nervous when confronting my supervisor for the first time but was extremely relieved when she responded with enthusiasum and support. It is against the law for an employer to discriminate against you for being pregnant, no matter how long you have been employed. Be confident and go in prepared to discuss your plans, however, never mention not returning to work even if you aren't sure what you will do after the baby. They hired you for a reason and just work hard to make them glad they did. Good Luck!

I think it would be illegal for him to fire you because your pregnant. What does that mean for your job? Will you work after you have the baby or not? How far into your pregnancy do you plan to work? How much time do you plan to take off after you have the baby? Is this job a "job" or a "career?" These are the kind of things your boss will want to know. Think it through carefully. Go to your boss in the next few weeks and talk to him. If you have answers to you questions above it will go ver much better.

Well, it is illegal for your boss to fire you just because you are pregnant. I wouldn't tell him until you are further along, unless your job can affect your pregnancy...i.e...working around chemicals or strenuous physical activity, etc... There is nothing wrong with being pregnant and working, and if your boss can't accept that...then he isn't worth working for. Working in a hostile environment wouldn't be good for you or your baby and no job is worth the health of your baby. I hope the best for you!

depends on what kind of job it is, i'm sure there are other people you would want to tell first, unless a pregancy is going to keep you from doing your job, or you feel too sick to work, then i dont think its too much of an issue, eventually your boss will find out, if you tell your coworkers, then tell the boss, he or she may be more understanding then you might think.

I'd wait until your first trimester is over. As long as you can continue on with the job it's really none of their business. They can't fire you or discriminate against you because you're pregnant. That could be a big ol' lawsuit for them.

It's perfectly understandable how you feel because it is so true. I think you should Waite at least until you think you need to. At least till you about 3 or 4 months. But be careful about do things that can hurt you like heavy lifting or climbing on a step stool to reach for things over your head. You could step wrong and fall. Once he finds out just act like you just found out yourself,

if it is the type of job that you should not be doing if you are pregnant, then i would tell them. but if it is a desk job or something like that then i would wait 6 more weeks. then you are through the worst of it and you probability of carrying to term is much better. of course if you are having a very syptomatic (?) pregnacy (i.e. crankiness, vomiting, exhaustion, etc) he may find out on his own sooner.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

I would wait until you are out of your first trimester. Many women wait that long to tell people in case of mis-carriage. I supervise 18 women at work and would not have a problem at finding out one of my employees was 3 months pregnant. Even a new employee....good luck with you pregnancy!!
