The real reason is that it was a motivational tactic to fire him him up for their future games.

The same thing happened in the 1996 european championship to another one of the Dutch players, he came back the next game and scored 5 goals in 4 games to lead them to the finals.

I wondered the same thing, this lad can find the back of the net but the Netherlands are phasing out the old guard and looking to the future. Did you notice the lack of colored players on this years club. They claim that there was dissension in the room between the Dutch lads and the lads from their old colonies. The country itself is going thru a metamorphosis their open door to refugees and foreigners is slowly being shut tight, but hey prostitution and drugs are still legal. Think about this.

When VanBasten selected as the dutch coach, he didn't invite many famous and world well known dutch players and instead he invite younger players to their national team, the only players who is invited from the group of Netherlands star from 1998 and euro 2000 (and even 2002) is nistelrooy.

I think vanbasten didn't want to invite him and just because of the pressure of media he invited him and today he shows that he didn't want nisltelrooy to play even when he really need him.

tonight, netherlands needed a striker who have more experience and who can make goals, so they need nistelrooy.
in other hand, tonight they needed a much experienced man to control the atmosphere of the game for the dutch side and don't let their team mates to do such bad things like they did in the game.
they didn't play fair and i think even Netherlands people will punish their team because of the activities they did in the match.

however, Netherlands loose to scolari and his thoughts and nistelrooy was their key but they didn't use their key.
