you need a tool called a tiger its pretty cheap you can get it at any home depot or lowes first score the wall allover with the tiger then you have to steam the paper you can buy one of those spray jugs fill it with hot water and spray the wall a few times and let it sit but first turn off your air and close your windows and keep the walls wet it will start to bubble then you can scrape it off and wipe it down

If the paper is"strippable" you can take hold of a corner and just pull it off quite easily. If it is "peelable", a layer of backing paper will be left behind which can be removed by moisture or dry scraping or used as a base for new paper.. If it is oldstyle paper you will have to scrape it off with a sharp blade such as a razor knife, then wash the surface before applying new paint or wallpaper. A steamer might help but would only work at the edge as you scrape. If you just want to repaint, or repaper, you can try washing the tar off with TSP (trisodium phospate) rinsing and towel drying as you go. Then just paint the wallpaper again, but use Kilz or Zinser 1 2 3 to keep the tar from bleeding thru the paint. These primers can be tinted and often look ok without a finish coat. This would be much easier than stripping oldstyle paper. If the paper is on tight you can often repaper right over it after rolling a coat of size (wallpaper paste) over it.

Most wallpaper are easily removed now days, if you can get hold of an edge pull the facing off( the print) then take soap and water and that will remove the backing. Scrub the wall down and either re wallpaper or paint.

I would pick an edge and try pulling the top layer off. The steamer has to penetrate the outside to do any good. You might need to get one of those tools that scores the top layer so that the steam can get under the paint.

Yes... you have the right idea. Use a saucepan filled with boiling water and paint the hot water on the paper with a brush..... but of course be careful not to burn yourself.

I did this same thing years ago and it literally fell off.

A steamer is good to... I didn't have one at the time.

Best of luck!

If it smells, the steam is working.
