I live in Baltimore, and much of the water in the immediate area of downtown Baltimore is too polluted to go crabbing. If you really want to do it yourself, as opposed to eating what others have caught, your best bet would be areas east of the city, such Hart-Miller Island. This begets the question, what are you planning on doing with crabs you catch? If you want to IM at yahoo messenger address, please feel free and if you tell me where you are staying, I can give you better advice.

As for the Zoo, if you take I-83 north out of the city and take the Druid Lake Dr exit, you can then follow banner signs off the streetlights to the zoo. I am a member there, and love it since parking is free and it is nicely lai out for walking, though it can be beastly on a very hot afternoon.

You may want to check out one of the better crabhouses, instead of trying to catch your own, unless you have transportation to take you pretty far away from the city. The harbor waters closest to the city are not very clean and do not make for good crabbing. The water has a lot of chemical runoff in it, and there was a rash of pfisteria poisioning a few years back as well, and I personally would not be in any hurry to eat anything that came from the harbor close to the city.

For crabhouses, I'd recommend Obrycki's or the Rusty Scupper. Avoid Phillips--- I know it's one of the most famous places for crabs but their quality has gone way downhill in the last five years or so... too bad their prices have not!

If you're determined to catch your own, I'd recommend a day trip to the Annapolis area, or to Sandy Point which is about halfway between Baltimore and Ocean City/Eastern Shore. You could try off of Broadway Pier, by the Broadway Market on Baltimore's Fells Point but realistically, Baltimore is a much better place to eat crabs than to hunt them.
