I have used this remedy for years, and my grandmother also used it. 20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap, pick up a cheapo ketchup squirt bottle at one of the dollar stores, fill it with the dry laundry soap and apply around baseboards, kitchen cabinets, where ever you see ants, leave it lay for several days, they will carry it back to their nest and it will kill them. When you no longer see any signs of ants, vacuum up the excess laundry soap and use remaining soap in the box to do laundry... do this every year at the first sign of ants in your house

I was starting to have a problem with ants, so one day I killed 3 or 4 after watching where they were coming from. Then I put the dead bodies on pieces of masking tape and put them in front on where the ants had come from. I guess they got the message, because there have been no more ants.

Just put a little Borax (you can find it in the laundry detergent section) in a jar lid or something with a little edge to keep it from spilling. The ants will carry it back "home" and die. Cheap but effective.

Instant grits. The ants take it to the queen, she consumes it. The dessicated corn meal swells inside her and, well, its not a pretty picture, but the problem goes away.
