what is the green mold like disease on the bark of trees? ( in Ohio)?

not a mold...it is lichen...it is a sign of stress on the tree... it doesn't hurt the tree...

If it's on the north side of the tree it's moss or lichen and probably harmless.

It sounds like you are talking about either lichen, or moss. It isn't a disease.
