Can anyone tell me why my dad gets checks from an Indian Reservation. I know he's Indian but I dont know the reason for the checks.

If he is a tribal member, it may be a royalty check from casinos or possibly from oil and gas leases on tribal lands, or perhaps even other investments (hotels, whatever). Check with the tribal governing body to see what is the source.

Per Capita distributions from:

-Land Claims settlement(s)
-Economic Enterprises, eg casinoes
-Trust Accounts held by the BIA or tribe for the individual
-Lease Payments for land they may own on the rez being leased by the tribe.

My boyfriend is Native American and he told me that like in California it is mostly from casinos if its per capita but like his tribe which doesnt have a casino he doesnt get per capita payments but he did get a lump sum when he turned 18 and they are waiting on a settlement to go through but I think that the older tribal members get the payments.

Probably profits from the reservation casino that has to be distributed to all tribesmen.

Guilt money probably. The government has a lot of mismanagement and lies to pay for.

maybe he contributed or is contributing somehow and he is getting a percentage of profits
