It's a wooden frame futon, full size, with cushion.
I'm moving and this is the only "big" item I'm attached to -- want to ship from west coast to midwest.
I don't care how long it takes, but my budget is limited.
Should I give it away?
What are my best options for shipping something that big?

It may well cost you several hundred dollars to ship your futon some 1,500-2,000 miles using the cheapest shipping methods. You would need to ship it with a common carrier such as FedEx Freight, Roadway, Yellow Freight, etc. It would ship based on both volume and weight. Since there is not much weight, the volume of space it takes inside a truck would determine the rate. In addition, you would have to crate it up in order to avoid damage, something the carrier would insist on.

In the end, you will spend far more to ship it than you originally paid for it. Best option is to sell it and buy a new one when you get to your new home.

Good luck with your move.
