I think the biggest issue to face us at this time is whether or not we can think for ourselves. Many people have theorized that we cannot appreciate the artificial nature of our culture, morality and governments, and that all of the beliefs that guide our decisions are potentially meaningless.
People all over the world are questionning the religions and mindsets that they were brought up with, leading to an abandonment of traditional morals... how will this effect the way we view big issues such as poverty, epidemics, war etc.? We may start to care more (become more humanitarian as material processes and supernatural concepts become irrelevant, leaving us with nothing 'real' beyong the human body) or we might start to care less (develop an incredulity towards metanarratives; our guiding principles and explanantions for our existence, leading us to hedonism or apathy).
Until we've sorted out what we really believe, we cannot take (or not take) appropriate actions, and I think that is why the world is stagnating and 'big issues' are not being resolved.

I think a huge issue is all of the animals loosing their homes because people are always chopping down trees so they can build something useless. I guess they do not understand that animals are living things, too, and that they had that land first. That's partly reason that animals are becoming extinct or endangered. People kill elephents for their tusks that just sit around people's homes being useless, they just think that they look cool, and other animals for their fur, to make fur coats that people will only wear once. If you ask me, God put animals on this planet for a good reason, but not so they would loose habitats and lives.

Kids getting killed in Iraq, with all of the artillery we have, why? The Arabic's will never stop fighting. They don't have since enough to respect their own women and families, so why, does anyone think they can change them. Look at them screaming and fighting in the streets, killing their own families, taking their wars to other countries, and them praying 5 times a day and don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with praying, but if they took care of their families as they should, they wouldn't have time to destroy their own country or everything that is in their paths, and our soldiers! I have listened to some of their beliefs, on no, no,no. I couldn't live that way. I have met both religions, and they are nice people, but it's scary when you learn some of their beliefs of the way they should live. God bless them all, but I don't think the Americans and other countries should have to suffer for a religious war.

My college education is the biggest issue in my life. Why? Because it's my education and I'm worried about paying for it, making it through with a high GPA, etc. Is it more important to me than abortion, the "war" in Iraq, or other national issues? Yes. Because it actually affects me directly, right now.

Definitely the wars that are going on all over the world. I know the Iraq war is close to home for us, but there are other wars as well. Why can't we just stop the fighting and get along?
