Why aren't people who are managed by a manager called managees?

Shouldn't the association be the same, for example, as a trainer and a trainee?

You're probably right, but I doubt they'd want to be called that.
Actually, it's the beauty and the irony of the wonderful English language.

Because Managees is not a word
