it has been confirmed preg. but I got my doc. to do a ultrasound but it still will not show up on a HPT. The same thing happened to my mom with my brother and me even with her blood test until she was in her 2nd month. I was wondering how often this happens and if it is common? Need some encouragement!

I had an early complete miscarriage 8 years ago. It was only a few weeks later when I felt pregnant again. My test showed up positive both at home and at the doctors. They just put it down to high levels of HCG (the pregnancy hormone) from the miscarriage. I was not convinced. For the next few weeks I carried on doing tests which all remained positive. They ended up sending me up to the hospital for a scan. This did not show anything. They decided to do blood tests. They tested my levels of HCG and then repeated the test several days later to see if the hormone level had increased. What a suprise it had. They did another ultrasound and there was my 5 week old little blob with a beating heart.

Don't give up hope

Does seem a little odd. Sometimes very early in pregnancy the hcg level is not high enough for the test to make the + sign show up and if it does it is so faint you can not see it. However at 8 weeks you wouldn't think that would be the case.
I would not be concerned if you have had an ultra sound and the doctor has confirmed conception. Once a healthy heart beat has been detected chance of miscarriage drops by like 80 %.

As long as you have had a confirmed blood test, there is nothing to worry about. Sometimes hormone levels are low enough that they don't show for a while on a home pregnancy test, that's why I tell people to get a blood test to confirm a negative HPT. If your doctor is doing an ultrasound, then I wouldn't worry. He is doing what needs to be done to make sure things are fine.

I didn't know for sure that I was pregnant until they did a ultrasound with my first child and I was like three months pregnant already. And with my second I was almost three months before it showed on a HPT. So you see it happens, some people just take a little longer to find out. But also I have PCOS so it effects the pregnancy tests also. Anyway don't worry about it. You are pregnant with a wonderful gift and you don't need to stress out why you didn't find out til now. So GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Well I have taken those home pregnancy tests and they say negative, but when I go to the doctor and they do a blood test it comes out positive. The home pregnancy tests don't work very well on me, as a matter of fact I was six months pregnant and it still showed negative. I only took it to prove to my best friend that they don't work. She was amazed. I know I am preggo when I miss my period. Thank God I haven't been late in 10yrs. LOL!!!

I've never heard of anything like that before. Call your doc's office in the morning and talk with his/her nurse. She'll have more time for your questions and will either know what's going on or will find out and let you know. Pregnancy is stressful enough; ask your caregivers lots of questions instead of worrying about things that may not even be worth worrying about.

this is not that common. Most women show up at about a week after conception. I would consult your doctor and talk about getting more blood work done to find out what the problem is.

It's not at all common. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why women can be pregnant for the full nine months and not know it until they are in labour.
