Start with spraying some starting fluid into the intake. If it doesn't fire or backfire or something, then it's an ignition problem. Does it have a passkey? They can cause that problem. Try her spare key to see if it will start the car. If a new key costs 20 bucks from a dealer only, it would be safe to say that it is a passkey. If it does fire off, then start checking the fuel system.

better have her take it in again, they may not have fixed it. and dont take it to the same place. might be ripping her off. and when you take it to another place ask them if the first place actually fixed what they said they fixed. the over heating is definately mechanical....this sounds electrical. laterz
