take interstate 75 into dallas and then the interstate 45 to galveston. 307 miles.

this is true, there are no beaches in dallas, but there are lakes that have sand. The closest one to plano will probably be Lake Lewisville on the west side.

Yes, you have to drive down to Houston and head to Galveston Island.
