How far should the bars be on a cage for 2 degus? We want to upgrade to another cage for our two girls, and we saw this birdcage that would be awesome, but I am unsure about the bar spacing (that cage has 1/2"). I have been all over the 'Net and cannot find anything. Any suggestions?

1/2 an inch should be small enough for degus. I have never owned degus, but I have owned rats, and they are smaller and more compact, and they cannot slip through my 1/2 inch bars.

A chinchilla cage is better since it is made of all metal. It is roomier plus provides more areas for shelves since they like height.

A bird cage is ok but not recommended.
