Go into the Control Panel and pick FIREWALL. You can disable that.

But that is not the method that I recommend. May I suggest that you go into the Control Panel and ADD the APPLICATIONS that you want to allow to get onto the internet.

Also, be sure to get SpyBot Search & Destroy from http://www.download.com and clean the Spyware from your computer. Then get Ad-aware from Download.com and use this to clean your computer.

Pay attention to computer security warnings. Taking the correct actions can save your computer from certain DOOM.

SP2 was an update to Windows XP to address security issues so the short answer is, you can't. I would get on the phone with your isp and try to figure out why you are having issues getting online or being online.

Sounds like a firewall issue. There is no such thing as an intuitive, simple firewall, but MS simply assumed everyone knew how to use it. Yay MS! (grumble... mutter... )

You will have to modify your FW settings. straight internet (web access) outbound is port 80, TCP, while secure internet (HTTPS) is TCP 443 outbound.

If you are looking for IM clients or special prgrams that connect to the internet in nonstandard ways (several multiplayer games, for example) you'll need to check on the vendor's website to figure out what to allow through.

Of course, you can always disable the firewall (in the control panel, under Security Center) but I don't recommend leaving it that way for long... there's a reason MS put that POS in.

you can not. However, you might be able to selectively install particular updates prior to SP2.
