Hello,
In these days of sophistication, even a car sales man should not be able to survive by doing very selfish business. If you mean a Car Salesman type as a fly by night operator and focusing on just making money? I guess even they cannot survive in these days of competition and service.
Now I don't understand what you imply by being knowledgeable. Are you talking about operating in buying, selling or leasing? Are you talking about helping people in residential, commercial, income, business or even mineral oil and gas?
I think you mean specialization. Based on my experience, I have been exposed to a little bit of residential real estate in San Jose, California. But even in that area, I am learning of new ideas every other day. I guess specialization helps us service the target class with ease and efficiency. Real estate greatly depends on expertise and referrals. You will tend to build expertise and referrals simultaneously. This needs tremendous dedication and patience.
Send me an email in case you have any specific questions.
Best regards,
Amol.

Pick one that has knowledge, I f they have knowledge, they don't have to be "high Pressure", they will lead you to the best decision, either buying or selling. Knowledge of the market always supersedes blustering. If you are selling, interview at least three agents, and pick the one with the best marketing plan . When buying, pick the one that know the area you want to buy in.

I would say knowledgeable. I personally believe to give the right solution to the customer than to sell them a bad deal in order to make money. If you think about it, we are trained and experts (supposedly) on real property transactions. We have a responsibility to our principals to give them the best solution to their real estate issues, regardless of our profit margin.
Again, this is my opinion and has made me successful.
Regards
