I found this at About.com (tips from readers), but it doesn't mention "leather" specifically:

"Steve writes:

"I tried everything to get rid of the foul odor of smelly sneakers/running shoes (this pair being used while coaching on wet soccer fields). Baking soda alone did not help, adding kitty litter did not help, washing with the best cleansers did not help, but baking soda and vinegar did the trick."

Use underarm stick deodorant on the soles of your feet before wearing sandals. It's the greatest thing I've learned in the past year. Totally works.

Ball up newspaper and stuff them into the sandal. Newspaper absorbs odors, moisture.etc.......I have also sprinkled baby powder or baking soda in them and left them overnight.

Fill a cotton sock with deodorizing cat litter, and stuff it in the sandal for a few hours.

Good as new!

Not easy- probably not possible. You can leave them in the sun a while to dry. You can clean them with soap and water, but you have to dry them thoroughly with a rag and leave in the sun or they'll stain.
